Key Findings from the 2024-25 IT Workforce Insights Report
- The IT candidate market has stabilised in the past twelve months. Reports of IT salary increases have rebounded slightly; reports of decreases are marginally down. IT Job Seekers indicating they received no change in salary are at their highest in the history of this report, at 37%.
- Job Seekers are spending more time, on average, looking for new opportunities. 30% of respondents, an all-time high, have reported spending longer than six months looking for work. 20% of job applicants from this cohort experienced a five-week or longer recruitment process.
- There are new levels of disparity between Job Seekers regarding what it would take to move roles if approached about a new opportunity. Those signalling they wouldn’t move, regardless of salary, is at an all-time high. The number of respondents willing to move for increases in excess of 15% has dropped to near record lows.
- Suitable challenges and job responsibilities have become more attractive than ever in motivating active Job Seekers to apply for advertised roles. Correlating to a drop in remote-work based resignations, a conveniently-located workplace is becoming more attractive when mentioned in job ads.
“While salary increases have normalised to be more in line with wage growth in Australia, the data in this year’s report suggests that money as a vehicle to drive greater job application numbers may not be the silver bullet employers are hoping for. A qualitative approach to the overall recruitment experience will be key in this market, as prying specialised and experienced candidates away from the stability of their current role will be difficult in the months ahead.”
