Clicks has collated the data from hundreds of organisations across a range of industries to release the results for our 2021 IT Recruitment & Retention Report.
The report, which analyses the strength of the IT staffing market, provides insights into areas such as hiring intentions, IT spend, and hiring trends. Based on the results from the report, there is much to be optimistic about for the year ahead. Only a third of respondents (34%) expect a decrease in sales turnover compared to 73% six months ago. There is also renewed confidence with 38% of organisations who participated in the survey anticipating sales turnover will increase over the next 12 months (previously 10%).
The IT sector – which remained steady during the pandemic as outlined in our COVID-19 special edition report – is showing signs of increased demand and growth. Our latest report shows demand for both permanent IT staff and IT contractors is on the rise. 35% of respondents anticipate they will increase their permanent headcount over the next twelve months. This figure is slightly higher than pre-COVID (33%). Since dipping in demand in July 2020, the number of organisations who reported they will increase their usage of IT contractors has doubled (from 11% to 23%). Results on staff retention efforts show remote work and flexible working hours remain the most favoured employee benefit offered by organisations.
The stability and growth of the IT industry are unsurprising as the investment in technology helped many organisations adapt in response to the pandemic and survive. Many organisations recognise it is the continued investment in technology that will enable them to thrive and stay ahead of competitors. The challenge for the IT sector will not be a lack of opportunities, but rather the ability to attract the right talent quickly to deliver on organisational goals and gather momentum in 2021 as the broader market recovers.
