We need a technology expert who can call out technical challenges and help shape responses to complex issues presented by tech platforms and internal projects. This role will work closely with our cyber security vendors, engage cross-functionally, and play a pivotal part in policy implementation.

You'll be stepping into a fast-paced, impactful environment, helping to protect Australians online by providing insight, research, and advice on emerging technologies. If you're someone with a research-driven, inquisitive mindset, this role offers the opportunity to significantly influence how technology and policy converge to enhance online safety.
Responsibilities
- Research & Advisory: Conduct in-depth research on topics including AI, machine learning, identity shielding, and forensic technology. Provide critical technical assessments for both external regulation and internal projects.
- Communication & Education: Translate complex tech concepts into clear, accessible language for diverse stakeholders, from executives to customer service teams. Develop educational resources on new tech risks and online harm prevention.
- Vendor Management & Review: Oversee cyber security vendor collaborations, ensuring their solutions align with our standards and regulatory objectives.
Key Skills & Background
- Qualifications: Master's or PhD in a related field (e.g., Forensic Technology, AI, or Information Security).
- Technical Expertise: Knowledge in algorithms, AI, data science, quantum tech, and decentralisation. Ability to scrutinise and advise on detection and moderation technologies.
- Soft Skills: Collaborative, approachable, and proactive with a passion for technology evangelism and educational engagement. Able to hold workshops, training, and participate in thought leadership forums.
What's In It for You?
Your work will have a direct impact on safeguarding online environments, especially for vulnerable communities. This role provides a platform to influence policy development and drive awareness around emerging tech risks. For those coming from academia, it's a unique opportunity to see research directly applied for societal benefit.
This role is ideal for a seasoned tech researcher, an ex-CTO/CIO/CISO eager to stay hands-on, or a technology consultant passionate about online safety. Apply now to join a pioneering effort in a meaningful, high-impact federal initiative.
