INTRODUCING Clicks’ 2020-21 Contractor of the year, Andrew Richardson! Andrew was presented with his prize – a voucher for a stylish “Home Office Makeover” from Temple & Webster valued at $1,500 – by our NSW Practice Lead Aimee Senior.
Contractors do great work and add value to projects, teams, organisations, and the workplace culture. We hear it all the time and the Contractor of the Year award is an opportunity for us to recognise that! This year we had to hold off our nominations from June until November due to COVID-19. However, it seemed more important than ever to celebrate and spread positivity through this award.
Judging by the nominations this year, it seems we were not alone in that sentiment. We were excited by the number of outstanding nominations we received. Although this makes our job of selecting a winner more difficult. The number of nominations is a great reflection on the efforts our contractors put into their work (even during a pandemic), and it’s amazing to see them recognised by their managers.
It was Andrew’s initiative, leadership qualities and effort going above and beyond to support his team and spread positivity that pushed this nomination to the top! Read Andrew’s nomination from his manager that won him top prize.
“Andrew has been a beacon of shining light during his time at Transport for NSW. He has held numerous positions and is such a valued member of the team. Not only is he a hard and diligent worker, he is also our constant motivator. Andrew spearheaded a Wellness Wednesday program for our group to help us be better physically and mentally to balance our workloads.
When the COVID pandemic began he organised numerous catch up sessions for our team so we could all stay in touch and be social. This ranged from Friday themed Playlists that we all contributed to, a slightly more abridged version of Wellness Wednesday with at home work out suggestions, Thursday Trivia and Tuesday Lunch catch ups with cooking classes via Teams. He also organised a library of books, movies, TV shows, and podcasts recommendations for us all to binge to during the first lockdown. It was like a book club and started great conversations with everyone.
He brings light and energy wherever he goes, he is one of the best people we have working for our business and he has made 2020 feel all that more bearable with the way he’s been proactively able to hold us together as a group.
Our team is better off for having him and work would not be the same without him.”
We had a chance to catch up with Andrew and tell him the good news:
Congratulations Andrew, what excites you the most about your new home office makeover?
It is a fantastic opportunity to redecorate and reorganise my home to make it more a home and also an office environment.
What is the number one thing on your list of things to upgrade in your workspace?
Definitely my desk.
What made you decide to become an IT contractor?
I came from an arts background approximately four years ago. I wanted to future proof my career and I decided to get an IT role as a Customer Support Officer and serve the people of NSW.
What do you think it takes to be a standout IT contractor?
You need to be you. Always be true to yourself and be individual.
And lastly, tell us what you enjoy most about your current engagement at Transport for NSW?
My work redesigning the Transport for NSW Information Customer form which has enabled us to assist customers to provide feedback and receive an outcome much more quickly.
Well done, Andrew! You are an asset to your team and organisation. Your dedication and passion to support everyone you work with makes you truly deserving of the title Contractor of the Year!
Thank you to everybody who submitted a nomination for this years’ Contractor of the Year – we received some incredible praise for our dedicated #Clicksters around the country and it brought us great joy reading these submissions. We’ll be in touch with all nominees to share details of your nominations and a small gift.
As is the nature of contracting, we have contractors finishing up assignments and looking for their next gig all the time. If you need a great contractor for your team, please reach out to your Clicks Account Manager, or contact us on 1300 CLICKS.
