About our Client

We are currently partnering with a leading financial institution in Australia, recognised for delivering innovative, secure, and customer-focused banking solutions. With a strong reputation in the market, they are undertaking a large-scale technology transformation, moving from complex legacy systems to modern, cloud-based platforms that will enable greater scalability, performance, and customer experience.

Role Purpose

The Lead Java Developer will play a pivotal role in this transformation, managing and mentoring a team of 10 developers to deliver modern, enterprise-grade applications. This is a hands-on leadership position that requires balancing technical excellence with people management, guiding the transition from legacy systems to microservices and cloud-native architectures.
The successful candidate will partner closely with architects, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to ensure delivery of robust, secure, and future-focused financial platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 10 Java developers through a large-scale systems transformation.

• Oversee the migration from legacy applications to modern, cloud-ready platforms.

• Drive end-to-end development across backend systems, APIs, and microservices.

• Collaborate with solution architects, product owners, and business analysts to align technical delivery with business goals.

• Communicate progress, challenges, and solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Ensure scalability, security, and performance standards are consistently met.

• Champion best practices in coding, testing, CI/CD, and agile delivery.
  
  

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• 8+ years of hands-on Java development experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership capacity.

• Proven track record of leading teams of 8-12 developers through complex technical projects.

• Strong expertise in Java 8+, Spring Boot, and Microservices architecture.

• Experience migrating applications from legacy monoliths to microservices/cloud environments.

• Cloud-native development experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, including containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).

• Strong experience with APIs, messaging platforms (Kafka, MQ, JMS), and enterprise integration.

• Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, and clear communication skills across all levels of the business.

• Financial services or banking domain experience highly regarded.
