Senior System Engineer - RHEL

Role Purpose

The Senior System Engineer - RHEL will be a key member of a high‑performing infrastructure team, responsible for engineering, supporting, and optimising enterprise server platforms.
You will work across RHEL, high‑availability clustering, VMware, patching, and backup solutions to ensure stable, secure, and scalable systems.
This role offers the chance to influence technical standards, uplift security practices, and contribute to major infrastructure transformation initiatives within a large and regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Engineer and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8/9 environments.
• Build and support Red Hat High‑Availability Clustering solutions.
• Manage VMware virtualisation using Broadcom VMware technologies.
• Administer Cisco UCS/Intersight and support Windows Server environments.
• Manage patching and backup platforms including Ivanti Lumension, Satellite, and Commvault.
• Support core services such as Active Directory, DNS, and NTP.
• Work collaboratively across networking, storage, security, and application teams.
• Apply best‑practice security controls and system hardening.
• Produce high‑quality technical documentation and contribute to architecture and transformation work.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• Advanced experience with RHEL 8/9 in enterprise environments.
• Strong skills in Red Hat High‑Availability Clustering.
• Expertise with VMware virtualisation platforms.
• Experience with Cisco UCS/Intersight and Windows Server.
• Knowledge of patching and backup technologies (Ivanti, Satellite, Commvault).
• Understanding of AD, DNS, NTP, networking, and storage fundamentals.
• Experience applying security best practices and hardening.
• Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and documentation skills.
• Proactive, solutions‑focused approach with experience in large, complex organisations.
