APS 6 Cyber Security Analyst

An experienced cyber security professional is sought to join a small, high‑impact team responsible for protecting critical digital environments. This role offers hands‑on operational work across detection, response, governance and continuous improvement, with exposure to modern cloud and endpoint security technologies.

What you'll do

• Monitor, analyse and respond to cyber security alerts, incidents and events
• Investigate suspicious or malicious activity across networks and systems
• Configure, manage and integrate security tooling, including endpoint detection and vulnerability management
• Develop and maintain incident response plans, playbooks, policies and standard operating procedures
• Provide practical cyber security advice to technical and non‑technical stakeholders
• Support governance, risk and compliance activities aligned to recognised security frameworks
• Contribute to cyber security awareness and training initiatives
• Research emerging threats and continuously uplift the organisation's security posture

What you'll bring

• Demonstrated experience in cyber security operations and incident response
• Strong understanding of cloud and modern workplace environments, particularly Microsoft 365 and Azure security
• Experience with SIEM, endpoint security, vulnerability management and identity/email security
• Ability to translate technical issues into clear, actionable advice
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
• A collaborative mindset and confidence working with diverse stakeholders
• Relevant cyber security certifications (desirable)
• Hold a current Negative Vetting 1 or Negative Vetting 2

• Salary: $99,734 - $116,343 + 15.4% superannuation
• Location: Canberra
• 12 months non-ongoing (S26 transfers accepted)
