If you haven’t started your Christmas shopping yet, there is no need to panic. We’ve got you covered with gift ideas that your family and friends will love, and make your shopping experience a breeze!
Ideas
The biggest challenge with gifting is often coming up with an idea of what to get! Here’s a suggestion – when considering the person you are buying for, think of something they want, something they need, something they can wear, and something they can read. If you’re still not sure what to get within these categories and haven’t noticed any subtle hints over the last few months, try speaking to someone close to the person you are buying for. As a last resort, you can opt for a gift voucher inline within one or a few of the following categories depending on your budget.
Shop local and support small businesses
We encourage our friends to try to purchase from local and small business owners where they can. So why not take a stroll down to your local shops for your Christmas shopping this year? You can also look online at sites such as Spend With Us, an Australian website that provides a platform where every rural small business in need can create their own free website store and Australians across the country can find their products and support them. The online business directly support families and communities who are having a tough time. Buying gifts for others always gives me the warm and fuzzies and it’s great to know on top of that, my purchase is supporting other families to have a great Christmas too!
Subscriptions
Whether it’s fashion or fishing, there is a magazine for almost all interests. A subscription is a gift that keeps on giving! A magazine subscription is also great as it creates an opportunity to curl up with a cocktail or cuppa and indulge in a bit of ‘me’ time. The kids don’t have to miss out either. With a toy library subscription, they’ll always have ‘new’ toys to play with while reducing the clutter at home and being good for the environment.
Personalisation
Personalisation is a big trend. Seeing a monogram with your initials on a pair of socks can really elevate their status in the world of gifting. Whether you personalise jewellery, a handbag or create a custom t-shirt, the receiver will appreciate the personal touch. Simple, sentimental ideas such as a family photo made into a jigsaw puzzle will be a fun gift! For the grandparents, a framed photo of their grandchildren, or their faces on a mug or a t-shirt if you are feeling a bit more adventurous, will go down well.
Timesavers
Save time by purchasing online and taking advantage of click and collect services. You can also drop off your presents to be gift wrapped at most shopping centres and take yourself out for coffee. You’ll feel great knowing you are also doing a good deed as proceeds go to charities. Most small businesses also offer great gift wrapping as well.
The gift of giving
Sometimes the greatest gift we can give is to the people whose smiles we won’t see and thank-you’s we don’t hear but whose lives we will likely touch. The Kmart Wishing Tree is available this year in store and online and there are a number of similar initiatives around the country designed to give a bit of Christmas cheer for those who need it!
Happy giving! We hope your loved ones have a great Christmas together.
