After record breaking highs, IT staffing demand continues to hold strong
What is the IT Recruitment & Retention Report?
Clicks’ IT Recruitment & Retention Report has been in production since 2006. For those new to the report, it collates data from hundreds of organisations across Australian Government and corporate sectors. The information is highly anticipated and well-respected within the industry, providing leaders and HR teams with data-driven insights about the Australian IT staffing market.

Despite ongoing concerns about inflation, organisations continue to remain optimistic. 55% of respondents anticipate their revenue will increase in 2023 – the highest figures reported in the last five years. Additionally, over a third expect to increase their IT budget over the next 12 months, with a shift towards hiring permanent IT staff continuing to grow.
Companies have increased their retention efforts to hang onto their tech talent. They have also further invested in building their internal talent pool, with those reporting they have a dedicated graduate program for IT staff reaching a record high.
In line with workplace changes in the past few years, a quarter of respondents disclosed they would hire someone ‘remote only’, and 85% reported they currently work in hybrid IT teams, with the majority spending two days in the office per week.
The most alarming trend from the report this year is the mismatch between employer and job seeker expectations. A whopping 92% of respondents said they had to pay more than they initially expected to attract the right candidate when recruiting in 2022. This is consistent with data from the previous year.
