We're seeking an experienced Data Engineer for a 2-month contract to support a government department through the next phase of a key data lake initiative. This proof-of-concept project focuses on transforming raw data into accessible, reliable formats that drive reporting and insights across the organisation.
In this role, you will design and build scalable data pipelines using Azure technologies, transform raw datasets into meaningful insights, and support a government department in enhancing their data capability through a key pilot project.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design scalable data architectures and develop robust data lakes
- Build and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure and medallion architecture
- Work with large, complex datasets and ensure high data quality
- Collaborate closely with analysts, developers, and IT partners to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions
- Document processes and uplift capability across the wider data team
What You'll Bring:
- Experience with Azure Data Services (e.g., Synapse, Databricks, Data Factory)
- Strong Python, SQL, and Spark (especially PySpark) skills
- Previous experience working with REST APIs and external data sources
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, GitHub, and source control practices
- Ability to communicate effectively and support knowledge sharing across teams
- Government data project experience will be highly regarded
