With Australia Day four sleeps away, in addition to being our national day, let’s be honest… it also provides a welcome break from the 5 day weeks we have been trying to get our heads back into since the Holiday season finished. So there are picnics, BBQs and radio-sessions abounding, not to mention well-earned sleep-ins all round.
There are lots of healthy alternatives for classic Australian recipes to celebrate the day with.
Here are some of our faves:
- Scones with yogurt and fresh fruit
- deconstructed Pavlova: rather than a whole piece you can make a fresh fruit salad á la Eton Mess with crushed meringue and mint
- Baked fish with sweet potato chips
- Zucchini fritters for the BBQ.
There are lots of quick and easy ways to support your health without punishing your tastebuds. How about we throw a shrimp on the Barbie with these delicious prawn kebabs? And to keep with the green and gold theme – why not have jugs of sparkling water with fresh slices of lemons and lime for a delicious patriotic thirst quencher?
Fresh salads such as this delicious Kangaroo and macadamia concoction or a combination of these amazing salads to help balance out the heavier treats that people will be indulging in.
To help burn off the celebration calories, how about trying this 30 day planking challenge? No equipment needed and only a few minutes a day required. Accessible for all to try, and a great way to reignite your New Year’s fitness resolutions, are you up for it? There are multiple variations of a classic plank that can be adapted to suit physical needs without losing the integrity of the exercise.
