We are currently partnering with a leading Australian organisation undergoing significant transformation across their Banking and Payments technology landscape. This business plays a critical role in the financial services ecosystem and is investing heavily in modernisation initiatives to uplift capability, resilience, and customer experience across core platforms. As part of this evolution, they are expanding their technology teams to deliver next‑generation Banking and Payments solutions.

Role Purpose

You will be responsible for leading solution design across on‑prem and hybrid environments, ensuring architecture integrity, security alignment, and seamless integration across complex Banking, Payments, and Financial Systems.

This role requires a strong background in infrastructure solution design and deep familiarity with financial services technology ecosystems. You will be accountable for producing high‑level solution architectures, guiding technical delivery teams, and managing stakeholder alignment across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop solution designs for on‑prem/hybrid IT systems and applications, with a focus on banking, payments, or financial platforms.
• Lead architecture design, security considerations, and integration patterns in line with enterprise standards.
• Work closely with business analysts to translate requirements into practical high‑level solution designs.
• Engage with infrastructure leads, cloud specialists, architects, operators, and developers to validate and refine design decisions.
• Take end‑to‑end responsibility for system integration, interoperability, and migration strategies across complex environments.
• Maintain a holistic understanding of technology stacks including virtualisation, storage, networking (Cisco ACI), automation tools, mission‑critical applications, and integration frameworks.
• Provide expertise in one or more key areas:
  • On‑Prem infrastructure (VMware, Cisco UCS, HA, networking, storage)
  • Cloud or container technologies
  • Backend application and database technologies
• Produce comprehensive documentation covering solution design, infrastructure configuration, processes, and operational considerations.
• Implement and enforce security controls including firewalls, patching, endpoint protection, and compliance with industry standards.
• Provide ongoing technical guidance to ensure architectural intent is delivered throughout the project lifecycle.
• Resolve architecture and design contentions effectively across teams and stakeholders.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, architecture governance, and technical decision‑making.
• Work within Agile delivery practices and support rapid iteration and collaboration.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• Strong background in infrastructure solution design for complex IT systems and applications.
• Experience working with banking, payments, or financial services technologies (highly regarded).
• Solid understanding of solution architecture best practices, design patterns, and integration principles.
• Experience with on‑prem/hybrid architectures including virtualisation, storage, networking (Cisco ACI), and mission‑critical systems.
• Knowledge of cloud technologies; experience with Microsoft Azure is a strong advantage.
• Familiarity with automation tooling, containerisation, and backend application stacks.
• Proven ability to lead complex technical discussions and influence stakeholders across architecture, engineering, operations, and business teams.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to take a holistic view while also deep‑diving into technical detail.
• Experience working in Agile teams on large‑scale transformation programs.
• Strong communication skills, interpersonal capability, and a proactive, curious, and accountable working style.
