Governance Risk and Compliance Lead

We are seeking an experienced cybersecurity leader to drive governance, risk and assurance uplift within a national public health agency. Working at a senior advisory level, this role supports strategic decision‑making and strengthens organisational resilience against emerging threats. You will influence cyber strategy, guide policy development, and ensure compliance with PSPF, ISM, Essential Eight and broader Australian Government security requirements.

In this position, you will partner closely with senior executives to shape uplift programs, lead complex risk assessments, manage assurance activities, and oversee vendor and third‑party security obligations. You will be responsible for maintaining robust governance frameworks, delivering executive‑level reporting, and ensuring that security controls are effective, auditable and aligned to the organisation's risk appetite and operational needs.

What you bring

You bring deep expertise across cyber governance, risk management, compliance and assurance in complex, high‑risk environments. Your experience spans Essential Eight maturity uplift, policy development, cyber risk assessment, and audit activities, supported by strong knowledge of government security frameworks. You are a confident advisor who can brief senior leaders, influence strategy and guide organisational decision‑making with clarity and authority.

Your background includes leading multi‑stream governance and assurance programs, managing third‑party and cloud security, and preparing high‑quality accreditation artefacts and audit‑ready documentation. You excel at translating complex technical issues into clear recommendations, driving continuous improvement, and uplifting security culture. As a collaborative leader, you mentor others, build capability across teams, and ensure the organisation remains secure, compliant and resilient.

Contract: 12 months + 2×6 month extensions
