About the Role
Are you ready to make your mark and build a data governance function from the ground up? Join a well-established financial services organisation as their first Data Governance Manager, where you'll have the autonomy to shape strategy, educate stakeholders, and drive compliance across the business.
This newly created role reports to the Head of Business Intelligence and offers the opportunity to work alongside a highly capable BI and data science team. You'll play a pivotal part in embedding data governance into business operations and have the potential to grow your own team in the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and own enterprise data governance frameworks, policies, and standards
- Define and embed data ownership, stewardship, and accountability across all business units
- Lead initiatives in metadata management, data lineage, classification, retention, and cataloguing
- Ensure compliance with key regulations (Privacy Act, APRA CPS 234, CPG 235)
- Identify, assess, and manage data risk and data quality risk
- Partner with Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Security to mitigate data risks, including those from third-party/vendor solutions
- Act as the main contact for regulators, auditors, and risk committees on data matters
- Build and coach a stewardship network; run forums and publish quality scorecards
- Define and monitor enterprise-level data quality KPIs; implement remediation processes
- Collaborate with executives, data owners, and stewards to embed governance into business operations
About You
- Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Data/Computer Science, Business, or equivalent
- 5+ years' experience in data governance, compliance, or enterprise data management, ideally within financial services or consulting
- Proven experience implementing governance frameworks and embedding them into business processes
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, especially with executives and business leaders
- Deep understanding of data governance principles and regulatory requirements (Privacy Act, APRA CPS 234, CPG 235)
- Skilled in resolving conflict between delivery needs and governance requirements
- Familiarity with data platforms and tools (Azure, Fabric)
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and change management skills
